Sleeping Beauty by Silken Ballet

The Sleeping Beauty Ballet is one of the most well known of all classical ballets. It is performed worldwide by almost all major ballet companies .
Tchaikovsky wrote the music for this ballet by the director of the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.

The Rose Adagio
One of the most famous solos is the Rose Adagio which will see today.
Technically it is not a solo as Aurora dances with other dancers, yet it is considered to be such because she does the most difficult dancing. In this tour de force the ballerina must execute very exacting balance moves. Each pass becomes exceedingly more difficult beginning with developee (leg extensions) and balancing arabesques.
Since Sleeping Beauty is a ballet dedicated to showing the skills of the prima ballerina, the most famous female ballet stars have tackled it. Some ballerinas more than others, however, have made their mark as Aurora as Siry Ember that we will watch today as Silken Ballet’s Aurora.
Some of the animations we are going to see were copied exactly from the real life choreography by Petipa and made for Silken Ballet.

The artistic conception and coreography of Sleeping beauty were executed by Geneta Babii and Siry Ember.
Prajna Vella and Babylon Sierot were responsible for the scripting, building and technical issues.
We thanks to Ephemera Designs for creating an exclusive wardrobe for this ballet.
Silken Ballet is presently formed by 11 dancers from which 6 are RL ballet dancers.

Peter and the Wolf makes part of a bigger Silken Ballets production that includes Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake extracts. These two last pieces will be presented next July, since the animations, costumes and stage design are much more elaborate.

In 1936 Sergei Prokofiev was commissioned by the Central Children's Theatre in Moscow to write a new musical symphony for children. The intent was to cultivate "musical tastes in children from the first years of school". Intrigued by the invitation, Prokofiev completed Peter and the Wolf in just four days.

Each character in the story has a particular instrument and a musical theme.

Prokofiev's story has a rather gruesome ending, with the wolf being killed, but Silken Ballet has chosen a more ecological interpretation, so as to remind everyone of the importance of all species. In this short, one act performance, wolf becomes friends with all the other characters.

We are delighted to introduce the musical interpretation of one of the best flute beatbox musicians, Greg Patillo, who kindly allowed us to use his music.

Romeo and Juliet was written early in the career of playwright William Shakespeare about two young "star-cross'd lovers. It was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime and one of his most frequently performed plays.

Romeo and Juliet has been adapted numerous times for stage, film, ballet and opera.
In Silken Ballet Romeo and Juliet will be shown as a timeless love story, where only the discovery of love, excitment and passion will be focused.
Oceanid Aeon and Sankar Mornington, the youngest ballet dancers in our company will bring to Second Life the most famous love in history.

Romeo and Juliet is a ballet by Sergei Prokofiev based on William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. Music from the ballet was extracted by Prokofiev as three suites for orchestra and as a piano work.
Prokofiev's efforts resulted in suites from the music being heard in Moscow and the United States, but the produced ballet actually premiered in Brno, Czechoslovakia, on 30 December 1938.

Babylon was an absolute revelation as Zobeide before she joined Silken Ballet. She arched and twisted into amazing shapes and her split jumps, with the rear leg arching upwards as the jete seemed to hold its breath, were gorgeous. She was a girl out to play whilst the Sultan was away and she oozed sex appeal from every pore.

Babette Kaniuk claimed to be too busy to provide a synopsis of herself, and she is too. Busy anywhere there is 'living' happening. You will see that life reflected in her dances and in the choreographic novelties she seems ever able to find. You will find her the life of the party or completely absorbed in something to the exclusion of all else. This is also carried over into her dancing, which combines aspects of both. The company is very proud to have her spirit as part of it and is pleased to encourage her to explore and express these aspects of herself.

Turning The Play Into A Ballet

When beginning to choreograph a ballet based on a play the choreographer must take into account the opportunities and limitations that exist for animations in Second Life. In the case of A Midsummer Night's Dream, choreographer Babylon Sierot has chosen to concentrate on the central section of Shakespeare's play, the realm of the faries. It is in the world of these ethereal beings that she feels dance best lends itself to expanding the story. Although some of the complexities of the written word may be lost, the magic, grace and humor of the play find a sure ally in dance. The grace and lightness one associates with a fairy such as Titania are qualities that classical dancers aspire to as well. Dance has also been integrated into these scenes in many versions of the play.

SL Silken Ballets was launched in 2008, under the direction of artistic director Babyllon Sierot. The group totals 5 dancers and during the 2008-2009 season will perform Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet and a classical piece based on indian dances.

Dedicated to promoting the awareness and appreciation of dance throughout all the communities of Second Life. All members of this company are or were dancers in real life.
